Position Overview

Land Surveyors at Buchanan & Harper are responsible for overseeing and supporting surveying, mapping, and boundary projects from research through delivery. This role requires technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, designers, and clients.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Land Surveyor responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing and delivering surveying, mapping, and boundary projects

  • Utilizing drafting software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Terramodel

  • Operating and maintaining surveying equipment, including:

    • Robotic total stations

    • Data collectors and tablets

    • 3D laser scanners

    • GPS/GNSS receivers

    • Digital levels

    • Small unmanned aerial systems (UAS)

  • Researching and preparing record boundary and right-of-way mapping

  • Coordinating survey data with engineering and design teams

  • Communicating with clients, engineers, designers, and project stakeholders

  • Ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with professional standards

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geomatics, Land Surveying, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Proficiency with computers and PDF software
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles and practices
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professionalism
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Local candidates are strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience & Credentials

  • Licensed Land Surveyor (preferred)
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Terramodel
  • Familiarity with modern surveying equipment and technology
